Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap Up with JV and 7 (via Instagram live stream) covered Leonard Fournette, who has been the story of the offseason, showing up to training camp “about a donut shy of 260 pounds” per Rick Stroud, Bucs beat writer. On my recent IG live stream I made it clear that “Playoff Lenny” has become an offseason disgrace to the entirety of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization. Fournette was previously a “bigger back,” sitting around 228 LBS, but now it’s gotten out of hand. To have snacked his way up to 260 LBS this offseason is ridiculous, and has raised questions surrounding his fantasy value and ADP.

Although Fournette is nearing 260 LBS, it’s guaranteed that he trims back down by the regular season. With a full season of play in an offense commanded by Tom Brady, you can expect top 10 RB upside, especially with the immense amount of receiving work out of the backfield. Fournette might slowly become a steal as he falls down draft boards because of this recent news. RB’s such as Javonte Williams, Saquon Barkley, and James Conner currently hold similar ADP’s compared to Fournette’s RB11 (Half-PPR). Considering Fournette finished as the RB7 in 2021 (Half-PPR) (ahead of Williams and Barkley), and only played in 14 games, he could produce phenomenal RB1 value coming out of the mid-late second round of drafts.

Looking at the total PPG across the board for RB’s in 2021, Fournette also finished the RB7 overall (Half-PPR). He averaged a higher PPG than RB’s like Christian McCaffrey, Najee Harris, and Nick Chubb. There’s no promise that Fournette can replicate his 15.8 PPG season in 2022, but even at a 13.5 PPG production rate, Fournette would finish inside the top 12 RB’s. Fournette also only recorded 10 total TD’s last season, which proves that his production was not TD dependent. As much as I’ve ridiculed (and will continue to ridicule) Fournette’s weight, the bottom line is that he is a top 10 fantasy RB in your drafts, and it’s undeniable.
